A Longest Day occurs as 180-microscopic 1962 war film, based on a 1959 book The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan, about "D-Day", the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944.

It was directed by Ken Annakin (British exteriors), Andrew Marton (American exteriors), Gerd Oswald (parachute drop scene), Bernhard Wicki (German scenes) and Darryl F. Zanuck (uncredited).

Numbers of of a military adviser & consultant world health organization helped by owning the film's productiin were actual participants in the action on D-Day, & come portrayed in the film. A producers drew the two from either two sides. Among the babies come Günther Blumentritt (the previous German general), James M. Gavin (an U.s. general), Philippe Kieffer (who led his men in the assault in Ouistreham), Max Pemsel (a German general), Werner Pluskat (a major world health organization was a 1st German officer to watch a invasion fleet), & Josef "Pips" Priller (a hot-headed pilot).

Theme lyrics
Lyric of a theme from either a film, the Longest Day written by Paul Anka:

A music is besides a authoritative march of Le Régiment de la Chaudière, the Canadian Parachute Centre, and a previous Canadian Airborne Regiment of the Canadian Forces.

Quotes from the film

"He's dead. I'm crippled. You're lost. I suppose it's always like that. I mean war." "Cor, stone the crows!" "I don't like it, but there it is." "You can't give the enemy a break. Send him to hell." "Au cœur des ténèbres, au plus profond de la nuit, il ne faut jamais désespérer. Gardons notre foi intacte, inébranlable! Pour chacun de nous, la délivrance approche." ("In the heart of the darkness, in the deepest of the night, we must never lose hope. Let us keep our faith intact, unshakable! For each of us, deliverance is coming.") "Glauben Sie mir, meine Herren, die ersten vierundzwanzig Stunden dieser Invasion werden entscheidend sein! Das wird für die Alliierten, aber auch für die Deutschen, der längste Tag werden — der längste Tag." ("Believe me, gentlemen, the first twenty-four hours of this invasion will be decisive! It will become for the Allies, as well as for the Germans, the longest day — the longest day.") Die Invasion! Sie kommen! ("''The invasion! They're coming!") Auf mich zu direkt! ("Right at me! ") Die fünftausend Schiffe, die die Alliierten gar nicht haben können, wie Sie meinen, sie haben sie! Ja, sie haben sie! ("Those five thousand ships, you say the Allies haven't got, well they got them! Yes, they've got them!''") "Get off the beach! Move inland! Get off the beach! Move inland! The sooner we get off this beach, the sooner they'll stop this blasted shelling. It's very bad for the dog."

"As my grandmother used to say, anything mechanical, give it a good bash." "Eine Invasion in der Normandie wäre gegen alle gesetzte militärische Logik, gegen alle Logik, überhaupt. ("An invasion within Normandy would exist as against completely constituted military logic, against a lot logic, dead.")

Trivia
Sergeant Kaffekanne's last name is from the German for "coffee pot", which he always carries. Bill Millin, the piper who accompanies Lord Lovat to Normandy with his bagpipes, played himself in the film. Lord Lovat had ignored a general order against pipers to bring Millin to Normandy, where Millin escaped being shot by German snipers — because they thought he was crazy! Richard Todd, who plays the leader of the British Airborne unit that lands at Pegasus Bridge, took part in the real bridge assault on D-Day.
